In the latest battery of crash tests performed by Latin NCAP, the Nissan Kicks has scored a four-star rating. The model which was tested is based on Nissan’s V-platform and comes with two airbags, ABS, ESC, seatbelts with pretensioners and Isofix child seat mounts, at the rear. This has helped the SUV to achieve four stars in adult occupancy, as well as child occupancy.
A five-star rating could have been achieved if the structure and foot area had been more stable, during a frontal crash. The lack of an airbag deactivation switch and Isofix alerts also cost it one star in child occupancy protection. The effects of a lateral impact were judged to be good, overall.
Nissan has confirmed that the Kicks will arrive in India in 2018, where it will rival the Renault Captur, Mahindra XUV500, Hyundai Creta and Jeep Compass. However, in order to keep costs in check, the Kicks will share its M0 underpinnings with the Renault Duster and Captur.
