Nissan charts out expansion plans

Nissan India is banking on its model line-up to treble sales in 2011-12.

With the Sunny saloon joining the Nissan range, the company believes it has the model line-up to treble the sales in 2011-12.

The company has also adopted an aggressive ramp-up plan for its dealership network as the carmaker is planning to sell 40,000 cars in the said period. Nissan India started selling the Micra -- it’s first locally made car in July 2011. During the July ’10 - March ’11 period, it sold 13,000 cars, of which only around 1,000 units comprised of the SUV X-Trail, luxury car Teana and the sportscar 370Z. At present, Nissan is selling around 1200-1300 units of the Micra on a monthly basis and the company is hoping for the Sunny to pick up momentum from the onset.

Nissan’s second made-in-India car, the Sunny, will hit showrooms in October this year. Currently Nissan has 40 dealerships in India. It plans to ramp up the dealership network to 100 by end of 2012.
