British luxury automaker Jaguar has been working intently on bringing its first-ever 4-door electric GT into production since the Type 00 was unveiled in December 2024. The all-new electric sedan was supposed to make its global debut later this year. However, the brand has now pushed the official reveal to 2026, according to a recent report.
- Brand’s current portfolio has no active models
- Commercial performance of the new EV will decide Jaguar’s future
Why has the new Jaguar 4-door electric GT been delayed?
Cyberattack to cost the UK economy around Rs 22,000 crore.
As one of this year’s most anticipated launches, Jaguar’s new EV has been grabbing media attention for a variety of reasons. While it was busy dealing with those, the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) group was struck by a major cyberattack in August 2025. Its impact has been so significant that the United Kingdom as a whole is expected to lose around GBP 1.9 billion (roughly Rs 22,000 crore), a CMC study found.
The cyberattack resulted in JLR having to halt production at its Solihull, Halewood and Wolverhampton facilities. Combined with a company-wide IT shutdown, JLR was unable to process new orders, while dealerships and suppliers were affected as well. Given the scale of this incident, it is possible that Jaguar had few options but to delay the debut of its new 4-door electric GT.
Jaguar’s strategy for future growth and relevance
Commercial viability of the new 4-door electric GT crucial for the British brand.
Even though it was also affected by the cyberattack, Land Rover was better positioned than Jaguar. Its SUV-only line-up finds plenty of takers both abroad and in India. On the other hand, with absolutely no active models to show for in its entire global portfolio, Jaguar desperately needs a new strategy to attract paying customers.
The launch of the new 4-door electric GT will be a new chapter for the brand, although global markets have been witnessing fluctuating demand for premium electric cars in the past few years. That said, the overall popularity of premium (or even luxury) EVs continues to pique curiosity among affluent buyers. What Jaguar could have done, however, is play it safe by offering new ICE options while also investing in pure-electric models.
Jaguar 4-door electric GT expected launch and rivals
Jaguar’s electric sedan will take on established rivals from Audi and Porsche.
The production model of the Jaguar 4-door electric GT will first be launched in North America in 2026, followed by Europe and other global markets. If Jaguar’s new EV makes its way to India, it will rival cars like the Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan.
