Toyota has unveiled the new Corolla hatchback which will be shown to the public for the first time at the upcoming New York auto show.  The car shares a lot of its body panels and underpinnings with the latest Toyota Auris hatchback, which was revealed at the Geneva Motor show recently.

The Corolla hatchback is also underpinned by the Japanese carmaker’s latest modular TNGA architecture, just like the Auris. This new platform is more rigid than its predecessor and has a lower centre of gravity as well. The new hatchback’s styling is based on Toyota’s latest design theme, which is also seen on the popular C-HR crossover. It comes with a long list of features and LED lights as standard.

The Corolla hatchback will be sold initially with a 137hp, 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, mated to either a six-speed manual or a 10-step CVT.  All variants come with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, a suite of features that includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, intelligent cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and even auto high beams.

Toyota will bring in an all-new Corolla sedan based on the hatchback; this car will also be based on the new TNGA platform. Expect the next-gen Corolla sedan to come to India soon after the new model is unveiled, internationally.
