A new Skoda crossover has been revealed for the Chinese market via leaked images on a number of Chinese websites. Said to be called the Kamiq, the crossover will slot below the Karoq SUV in Skoda’s Chinese line-up.
The websites report that the Kamiq’s dimensions are 4,390mm long, 1,781mm wide, and 1,593mm tall, with a 2,610mm long wheelbase. Compared to the Karoq sold in international markets, it is 8mm less in length, 60mm in width and 12mm in height, with a wheelbase that is shorter by about 20mm.
In terms of design and styling, the Kamiq looks a lot like its larger SUV siblings, though the headlamps, tail-lamps, front and rear bumpers and tailgate have been tweaked. The interiors of the crossover haven't been revealed yet, but it looks to be a five-seater.
Under the bonnet is said to be a 110hp, 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. There is no word on the transmission or whether the Kamiq will come with an all-wheel-drive option, though the latter is unlikely for the Chinese market.
Skoda will reportedly assemble the Kamiq at the Shanghai Volkswagen joint venture facility and is expected to put it up on sale in China in June 2018.
The Czech carmaker, however, hasn't provided any information on if the crossover will make its way to India. Skoda recently launched the seven-seat Kodiaq SUV in India and has plans to launch the smaller Karoq by the end of 2018.
