The next-generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has been spied testing in Indonesia, soon after it was first spotted testing on the outskirts of Delhi. While the all-new MPV is slated to launch in India in August, this year, the Japanese carmaker could debut the model at the upcoming Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS), taking place during April 19-29, 2018.

The new spy shots do not reveal much more about the second-gen Ertiga than the previous ones, with about the same amount of camouflage; although the wrap-around tail-lamps look very similar to the ones on the Ciaz sedan, except that these extend further on, to the tailgate. This arrangement will make the MPV look wider than it is. Like the model spied in India, the Indonesian one is a higher-spec variant with alloy wheels (likely 16-inchers), a stop lamp integrated in the rear spoiler and a rear wiper.

As we had reported earlier, the new-gen Ertiga looks to be longer and wider than the outgoing model. The rear overhang, in particular, seems to be longer, indicating more space for the third row. The rear windscreen is more raked than the current models’ to compensate for the increase in length; though the blacked-out D-pillar looks a bit thick and may not provide the best view out the back.

One of the key reasons for the increase in the new MPV’s dimensions would be to boost its practicality, as compared to that of its rivals. Toyota has repositioned its Innova Crysta in the Indian market, making it slightly more upmarket. Maruti hopes to fill this void, which will see the new Ertiga contend with Mahindra's upcoming Mahindra MPV, codenamed U321.

For India, the new Ertiga is expected to be powered by the current model’s engines – the 92hp, 1.4-litre petrol and the 90hp, 1.3-litre diesel engines. A 1.5-litre diesel engine – which is currently under development – is expected to be introduced at a later date.
