BMW has begun testing the next-gen 5-series sedan in India. Slated to launch late next year in India, the new BMW 5-series sedan saw a global unveil earlier this year.  The heavily camouflaged test mule has been spotted around Pune. Judging by the design of the alloy wheels, BMW will – like the larger 7-series – bring in the 5-series and its M Sport variant as well.

The new BMW 5-series takes influence from the new 7-series which went on sale in India earlier this year, adopting a subtly sharper form than that of the old 5-series with tauter surfacing and more finely honed crease lines along the flanks, including an additional feature line running along the top of the front and rear doors.

The new 5-series has grown in size, but only slightly. Its length has increased by 36mm to 4,935mm, the width grows by 6mm to 1,868mm, and the height increases by 2mm to 1,466mm. The wheelbase is 7mm longer than that of its predecessor at 2,975mm, while the track widths of the 520d are up by 5mm at the front and 3mm at rear at 1,605mm and 1,630mm respectively. For context, the next-gen Mercedes-Benz E-class (standard wheelbase) stretches to 4,880mm in length, 1,850mm in width and 1,470mm in height.

The new 5-series will be sold in India in 520d (190hp), 530d (265hp) and 530i (252hp) form; the 530i this time around being a four-cylinder engine.
