About Maruti Suzuki Autocar Young Driver 2014:
The Maruti Suzuki Autocar Young Driver contest was born out of a commitment to promote safe driving. To this end, Autocar India and Maruti Suzuki joined forces to create a property which would engage people between ages 18 and 30, while teaching them the merits of following the rules of the road. Its sixth edition started with "The Uncool Moments" contest, a unique photo based contest which required participants to post photographs of reckless driving that they had clicked, on the Autocar India Facebook page. The overwhelming response that this contest received, proved that the youth believe that 'Unsafe is Uncool'.
The main contest was divided into four phases. Phase one, an online quiz about road safety and traffic rules, received over 24,000 entries. Of these, only 3,000 made it to Phase two, a driving skill test was conducted at Maruti Driving Schools across 42 cities. Thirty best drivers from those 3,000 have now been selected for the third phase of the contest. They will be flown to Delhi for the grand finale, where they will be judged on the basis of 20 parameters pertaining to safety, vehicle control, theory knowledge and its application, while driving. In the final phase, the winner will be adjudged “The Maruti Suzuki-Autocar Young Driver of the year 2014” and will take home a brand new Maruti Suzuki Alto 800.
