Last year, with the launch of the E-class in long-wheelbase form only, Mercedes significantly upped the sedans luxury quotient and focused quite squarely on chauffeur-driven customers. Now, a little over a year and half later, the German carmaker has added a few extra creature comforts for rear-seat passengers.

In our original review of the car in February last year we had commented on the lack of rear cup holders and soft-closing doors; thankfully with the mild refresh expected to launch soon, Mercedes will offer the automatic soft-door closing ability, like its elder sibling the S-class. There will now also be some place for rear-seat passengers to keep their drinks, with the rear extended section of the front centre armrest getting two cupholders.

Also borrowed from the S-class is the steering wheel – although the E-class isn’t going to get the flagships’ autonomous abilities like lane-keeping assist, auto braking etc. On the outside, there isn’t anything aesthetic to differentiate the new car from the older model; however, the insides get a mild change of a wood trim finish on the lower part of the front console and around the rear centre arm rest.

Prices have been mildly revised with the E200 expected to be priced at Rs 58.83 lakh – approximately Rs 22,000 over the MY18 car. The E220d will be priced at Rs 59.83 lakh – an increase of approximately Rs 19,000. Prices for the E 350d remain the same, at Rs 72.85 lakh.

All prices ex-showroom, Mumbai.
