The long-awaited Mercedes-Benz E-Class long wheelbase facelift will make its India debut on March 16, 2021.  Earlier slated for a market launch later this year, the launch of the E-Class long wheelbase has been preponed by the company. Price announcement for the E-Class long wheelbase facelift will take place on the same day as its India debut.

  • E-Class LWB has a 140mm longer wheelbase than the standard car
  • Design changes are near identical to the standard E-Class facelift
  • E-Class in India will also get the sporty AMG-line trim

2021 Mercedes Benz E Class long wheelbase: what's new?

The updated E-Class in long-wheelbase guise made its debut at the Beijing Motor show last year and the one headed our way will more or less look similar. The updated sedan from Mercedes-Benz in long wheelbase version gets almost similar styling updates as the standard model sold in countries other than China and India.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class long wheelbase facelift for India gets a new headlight, grille and bumper design, with a much wider chrome-laden grille and additional chrome bezels for the fog lamp inserts. The grille design, like most other Mercedes-Benz models sold globally, will differ on the AMG variant. At the back, the new E-Class gets a pair of slim tail-lamps that look quite similar to the new S-Class and the recently unveiled C-Class. These styling updates bring the updated E-Class in-line with the newer sedan range from the German brand that also includes the A-Class Limousine, which will also come to India on March 25, 2021.

India is expected to get the E-Class AMG-line variant, which includes a unique front grille, sportier alloy wheels, a flat bottom steering wheel and unique AMG-line upholstery.

Mercedes claims that rear-seat comfort has also taken a step up and has a new rear-centre console touchscreen and two USB ports.

Besides these changes, there’s no way to tell the E-Class long wheelbase from the standard model – the updated MBUX software for the infotainment (the pre-facelift model in India had the older COMAND NTG5 unit) and the new steering wheel are common, save for the above mentioned interior upgrades that will be seen on the AMG-line versions.

2021 Mercedes Benz E Class long wheelbase: engine and powertrain options

We expect the same set of engine options as the outgoing car, these include the E 200 that is powered by a 197hp, 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol; the diesel E 220d that comes with a 194hp, 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel; and the E 350d that uses the company’s 3.0-litre straight-six diesel.

The new E-Class long wheelbase will rival the BMW 5 SeriesAudi A6 and Jaguar XF in the Indian market.

Apart from the updated E-Class, the brand will also introduce the A-Class limousine in India. Additionally, the all-new S-Class is also expected to come to our shores sometime later this year.
