Mercedes has been testing the new A-class-based sedan for quite some time on international soil. This new sedan will rival the Audi A3 sedan globally. The pre-production model of the new A-class sedan features a toned-down styling compared with the dramatic Concept A sedan revealed at the 2017 Shanghai motor show. However, he latest A-class hatchback's aesthetic cues include a pair of slimmer headlights and a larger front grille, which are expected to be seen on the sedan. The British carmaker will also bring in a hot A45 sedan to rival the Audi RS3 sedan.

The A-class sedan will share the rest of the engines with the A-class hatchback. Inside, the sedan is expected to be almost identical to the hatchback and will feature Mercedes’ full-width digital dashboard and infotainment display. The S-class-derived driver assistance systems are also to be included, which will allow the car to steer and brake autonomously, up to certain speeds.

Mercedes will also unveil an all-new CLA next year. Not to be mistaken with the CLA, the A-class sedan will be a separate derivative. For example, its conventional roofline is unlike the swoopy coupé-like design seen on the CLA.

Both cars will offer a three-box shape in similarly-sized packages; but a Mercedes spokesman told our sister publication, Autocar UK, that both cars will appeal to different customers. Evidence for this, they said, comes with the E-class and CLS.
