Mercedes has officially announced the return of the Maybach badge. The super-luxurious name will first be introduced on an extra long wheelbase version of the S-Class.

This plush model will be called Mercedes-Maybach S600, and will make its global debut at the upcoming Los Angeles Motor Show 2014. The new car will be a luxury model that Mercedes says, “melds the perfection of the best automobile in the world, the S-Class, with the exclusivity of Maybach.”

The Mercedes-Maybach S600 will draw power from the Merc-AMG twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V12 engine in a different state of tune.

Visually, the new Maybach version of the S-Class will be differentiated from standard models by some cosmetic tweaks like a restyled grille and longer rear doors. It will also get individual electronically adjustable rear seats.

Upon launch, the Mercedes-Maybach S600 will have the likes of the Bentley Flying Spur V12 and Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II in its crosshair. It will also form the base for an S600 Pullman, an even longer-wheelbase model that is likely to debut in 2015.
