Hyundai is gearing up to debut a pickup truck, in order to capitalise on this extremely popular segment in the US. The pickup truck will be based on the Santa Cruz concept that Hyundai had showcased at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show. The introduction of the new model has been confirmed by Luc Donckerwolke, new Chief Design Officer at the Hyundai Motor Group.

It is uncertain which segments the pickup truck will compete in – it could be placed in the smaller pickup truck market that is dominated by models such as the Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma, or look to take on the hugely successful Ford F-150 in the full-size segment.

Kia is expected to introduce a pickup truck on the same platform, soon after its Hyundai counterpart is released.

Hyundai has not said anything about an India launch for the pick-up truck.
