Hyundai’s stand-alone luxury brand, Genesis, seems to be eyeing a segment above its new BMW 7-series rivalling sedan, the G90. Essentially an extended wheelbase version of the G90, the new model currently under testing is expected to rival Mercedes’ flagship Maybach S-class limousine.
The completely undisguised test mule of the car was seen in Germany. Styled like the standard G90 sedan, the long-wheelbase model gets a thicker B-pillar and longer rear doors.
Though there are no details about the interiors, it is expected to get all the amenities of the standard G90 sedan along with a host of additions such as individual rear seats with massage function, a chilled mini-bar, etc to to bring it on par with its German rival.
The long-wheelbase sedan is expected to borrow the powertrains of the standard G90. This means that the car will be powered by a choice of two V6 and one V8 engine paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox with optional four-wheel drive.
The standard G90 premium luxury sedan is set to go on sale in Korea as the EQ900 sometime later this month. The long-wheelbase G90 could make its debut soon, but no confirmation has been issued.
