Honda has confirmed that its long-awaited new NSX will debut at the Detroit motor show 2015. Also known as the Acura NSX in some international markets, the Japanese carmaker claims the car will offer a "new sports experience" when it goes on sale globally, early next year.

The NSX was first present as a concept at the Detroit motor show 2012, updated later for the Detroit motor show 2013, and now the 2015 edition of the motor show gets the production-ready version. “After three years of intensive development work, we are excited to reveal this next-generation supercar, the Acura NSX, to the world,” said Ted Klaus, chief engineer and global project leader for NSX development.

It carries over most of the styling from the concept; the stretched LED headlamps, bonnet vents, large wheel-arches and muscular haunches are all there. In terms of mechanicals, the NSX will be powered by a mid-mounted, V6 petrol engine driving the rear wheels, while two electric motors will power the front wheels. It also gets a third electric motor which boosts the engine performance, taking the total output to more than 400bhp. The assembly is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and the production NSX also retains the concept’s Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handling All Wheel Drive) system. The entire setup should also provide it with sharp handling, as the two motors in the front also allow torque vectoring.
