These are one of the first images of the upcoming hybrid version of Honda Fit, sold as Jazz in our market. The images are from a leaked brochure for the Japanese market. The Hybrid Fit/Jazz will join Honda’s global lineup of other Hybrid models namely the Insight, Civic Hybrid and the CR-Z coupe.

Like other Honda hybrid offerings, Fit hybrid would use Honda’s low cost Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid setup. There are speculations indicating this model would be using Honda’s 1.3-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine that would work in tandem with a 9.7kW electric motor, producing about 97hp along with decent amount of torque to pull the large hatch. This is the same powertrain combination used on the Insight.

Additional features such as Brake energy regeneration and start-stop features would also be the part tech equipment to help improve fuel economy. Transmission to be used will be mostly CVT, as seen in other Honda Hybrid models.

The images also show some subtle cosmetic changes like slightly modified headlamps, clear tail lamps and a next-gen Honda family grille. However, it remains to be seen whether this mild facelift will be carried on to the conventional Jazz/Fit models or it will be exclusive for the Hybrid version.

Honda had earlier launched the Civic hybrid in the Indian market which didn’t find as many buyers due to the astronomical premium demanded by the manufacturer. The Jazz hybrid, when launched in India, will surely demand a slight premium over the conventional petrol version. If priced right, the hybrid hatch could give a boost to the hybrid vehicle segment in India
