General Motors have launched a CNG variant of its mid-sized saloon, the Chevrolet Aveo. The bi-fuel variant will sport a full sized petrol tank and the company claims that it is one of the most cleaner and greener cars available in India.

The Chevrolet Aveo CNG is equipped with the next-generation computer-controlled CNG injection technology. The Electronic Controller Unit (ECU) calculates the opening times of the injector for each cylinder and acts separately on each gas injector with the highest precision.

Speaking on the occasion, Karl Slym, President & MD, GM India, said, "The launch of the Aveo CNG is a testament to the importance that GM India attaches to green technology and environmentally friendly mobility solutions.”

According to the company, the BS IV compliant Aveo CNG’s running cost is approximately 54 percent lower than a similar spec petrol car. And under normal driving conditions, the Aveo CNG has a range of 180-200km on a full tank of CNG. To make the Aveo’s 1.4 litre petrol engine CNG-compatible, GM has hardened the valve seats and made use of anodised pistons to ensure that engine remains free from any damage caused by constantly running in the CNG mode. The suspension has also been reinforced to support the additional weight of the CNG cylinder that sits in the boot.

The vehicle has undergone extensive testing and the car comes with a three year/1lakh km warranty as standard. The Aveo CNG is priced at Rs 6.26lakh, ex-showroom Ahmedabad, making it an excellent value for money.
