Hyundai has unveiled the first model under its Genesis luxury brand, called the G90. Set to replace the Hyundai Equus in the international markets, the G90 (badged EQ900 for Korea) will be followed by the smaller G80 and G70 sedans, a two-door coupé and a crossover model.

The G90 seems to share styling details with the Vision G Coupe concept with its prominent chrome grille, swept-back headlamps, sleek one-piece LED tail-lamps and dual exhausts incorporated into the rear bumper. The front bumpers are also similar, though the G90's unit appears less aggressive and gets LED lights. Making the luxury sedan look more upmarket are the chrome inserts on the front and rear bumpers and on the window line.

Inside, the car gets a four-seat layout with the centre console extending the length of the cabin. The cabin is finished in a mix of leather, wood and metal, and gets electrically adjustable seats, Lexicon sound system, a 12.3-inch infotainment display on the dashboard and a three-zone climate control. The rear seats get individual 9.2-inch displays.

The G90 is powered by a choice of three engines –  a 3.8-litre V6 developing 329bhp, a 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 that pumps out 365bhp, and a rang-topping 5.0-litre V8 that develops 419bhp. Also offered as options are all-wheel-drive and Genesis Adaptive Control Suspension systems.

The Genesis G90 will go on sale in Korea in the first half of 2016 as the EQ900. It will be offered in other international markets in the second half of the year. The luxury sedan will rival the new BMW 7-series and Mercedes S-class.
