Fiat has conquered a milestone of selling 4 million units of its MultiJet engines globally

 

The 1.3-litre MultiJet engine began is production in 2003. It is an evolution of the common rail system invented by Fiat in 1997. The Multijet is still under constant development and is being sold in various countries. The 1248cc engine is available with two power choices globally ranging from 75bhp with fixed geometry turbocharger and 90bhp with variable geometry turbocharger.

 

The MultiJet is fitted on a large number of cars from the Fiat namely the Panda and the Punto family. It also powers the Lancia Ypsilon, Alfa Romeo MiTo (where the engine is marketed as JTDm).

 

<span style="font-size:10.0pt;>Since 2008, Fiat started manufacturing the 1.3-litre 16v Multijet at its Powertrain plant in Ranjangaon. In India, the MultiJet engine powers the Fiat 500,Stile, Punto and Linea, as well as models from the Suzuki stable such as the Swift, Dzire and Ritz where it’s sold as DDiS.

The 1.3-litre 90bhp MultiJet engine will soon power the Maruti SX4 as well. It is also available in Tata cars such as Indica Vista and Indigo Manza where it’s known as the QuadraJet.

The 4 millionth MultiJet unit, will be on duty in a Fiat 500 intended for a French customer.
