Fiat has begun testing a new crossover, which will be called the 500X. The Italian carmaker had earlier showcased a prototype of the car at a media conference in Turin, Italy. The Fiat 500X crossover SUV is based on the same underpinnings as the new Jeep Renegade. The new Fiat 500X is expected to get a blend of design elements from an SUV and a hatchback.
According to our sources, the 500X is expected to measure around 4.2 metres and will come in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. The 500X is expected to be powered by Fiat’s 0.9-litre two-cylinder turbocharged petrol TwinAir motor and there will be a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel on offer as well.
The 500X will be the fifth model in the 500 range, after the 500 three-door hatchback, the 500C convertible, the Abarth-branded performance versions and also the new 500L MPV.
The Fiat 500X will be built at the Italian company's Mirafiori plant.
