Driving a car is considered one of the highest forms of individual freedom. But what if you were able to design a car that tens of thousands of people would love to drive? Well, you now have an opportunity of doing so.
 
Autocar India along with General Motors (GM) India is looking for people who have a flair and passion for design and can come up with something creative for Chevrolet’s new car. 
 
The iconic bowtie adorns cars like the Beat, Spark and Cruze, some of the company’s best-sellers in India. And the Chevrolet badge could also sit on the next car that’s been designed by you! 
 
The Autocar-GM India contest is open to students from all over the country. The objective of this contest is to design a car that would appeal to Indian tastes, preferences and requirements. The design should also keep in mind Indian driving conditions, the environment and safety.
 
The contest will comprise the following categories:
• Exterior design  
• Interior design
• Colour & materials coordination 
• Practical design
 
Eligibility criteria 
The contest is open to all Indian resident students between 18-30 years old in the Technical (automobile design institutes) and Open (from any stream) categories. Designs can be submitted by individuals as well as groups. 
 
Stage 1 
Online registrations / DD submissions - 1st – 10th September 2010
All participants will have to register online. They will be given a unique user ID, which is to be used in all future correspondence. The Demand Draft needs to be submitted within the above mention period.
 
Stage 2Last date 15th September 2010
Submission of Entries 
The designs may be either created by computer-generated programs or drawn freehand. Only one file is accepted per design. However, it is possible for participants to submit any number of independent designs. The designs will need to be initially presented on paper (sketches and / or 2D designs). 
 
Designs will be shortlisted by a panel of judges and shortlisted on the following parameters:
• Aesthetics and visual appeal
• Ergonomics
• Developmental potential 
• Overall presentation
 
The designs can also be submitted as attachments on the event microsite – 
www.autocarindia.com/chevroletdesign.htm in JPEG/ PDF format. The file size should not exceed over 4MB per submission. Each entry will need to have a short summary/ description of the design. 
 
Stage 3 
Short-listing of submissions by panel of judges - 20th September - 25th September 20  
Creation and submission of mould designs - To be announced 
Winner announcement / Press Conference - 
To be announced 
The panel of judges will screen the 10 best designs to conclude the top three finalists who will be announced at a press conference. Grading for the shortlisted entries will be on pre-determined parameters set by the judges. Ten shortlisted entries will be communicated by Autocar India to begin work on their designs in the form of 3D scale models in clay, fibre or other materials. 
 
Final Selection 
The prize for the best group design would be: 
 
Overall 1st prize 
Free Chevrolet Beat 
 
Overall 2nd prize
 Visit to a GM Design Studio in North America / Equivalent Prize Money
 
Overall 3rd prize 
Visit to a GM Design Studio in Asia / Equivalent Prize Money
