Update: Hyundai Creta launched in India at Rs 8.59 lakh

Hyundai's launch of the Creta has been scheduled for July 21, 2015. The upcoming SUV with come with three engine options – a 1.6-litre diesel and petrol, and a 1.4-litre diesel – and in six trim levels – Base, S, S+, SX, SX+ and SX (O). The 1.6 petrol motor will power the Base, S, SX and SX+ models, the 1.4 diesel will be offered in the Base, S and S+ variants and the 1.6 diesel will be available in the SX, SX+ and SX(O) trims. The Creta will also become the first diesel SUV in the segment to get a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The second model in the comparison is the upcoming Maruti S-Cross. The S-Cross is expected to launch sometime in early August, and will become available as a diesel-only model. Under the hood will be the tried and tested 1.3-litre diesel unit, badged DDiS 200, seen in nearly all diesel Marutis, and the new Fiat-sourced 1.6-litre diesel unit, badged DDiS 320. The S-Cross will be available in five trim levels — Sigma, Sigma (O), Delta, Zeta and Alpha. The DDiS 200 will be available in all trims, while the DDiS 320 will be restricted to the top three.
