Castrol has launched the first ‘Eco’ product in its GTX range for diesel vehicles in India. The Castrol GTX Eco is priced at Rs 1,603 for a five-litre pack, which is the same price level as the regular GTX. Interestingly, India is the first country to get the engine oil.

Castrol has said that the GTX Eco engine oil, when compared with standard Castrol GTX Diesel products, provides the same protection that can help extend engine life but by using re-refined oil, it delivers a 10 percent reduction in CO2, verified after rigorous testing.  Castrol GTX Eco uses an innovative base oil blend of 50 percent virgin oil and 50 percent re-refined oil.

A rigorous re-refining process includes dewatering, defuelling, demineralisation, vacuum distillation and distillate treatment. GTX additive technology is then used to fortify the oil to create a high-performance product.

The company is now working on developing a similar oil for petrol vehicles. Talking about the product, Kedar Apte, head - Brand and Communications, Castrol India said, “By re-refining used oil and delivering it as a high-quality product, Castrol GTX Eco delivers CO2 reductions without compromising on engine performance or protection.”
