BMW has finally started rolling out the all-new 5-Series (F10) saloon from its Chennai plant. Deliveries of the new model will start by the end of July.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Juergen Eder, Managing Director, BMW Plant Chennai said, "The BMW 5 Series being the core product of our model range has been given an overwhelming response from the Indian market and has made BMW a great success in India. The team at BMW is ready to roll out the 5 Series with highest standards of quality, distinguished workmanship and uncompromising engineering."

Eder has ensured that the 5 Series manufactured at its Chennai plant will increase the scope much further in the luxury car segment in the Indian market. The all-new BMW 5 Series was launched in India on April 30, 2010, in Mumbai with two petrol variants; 535i and 523i and two diesel variants; 530d and 525d.

The 523i, 530d and 525d are assembled as CKD (completely knocked-down) units at the company's Chennai plant. However, the top of the line 535i model is available only as a CBU (completely built-up unit).

Sales of the 5 Series has dropped down by 33% to 540 units during the Jan-June period. One of the reasons behind the fall is the changeover from the old model to the new one.
