It is also the first electric model in Porsche’s line-up to offer a track-focused Manthey kit.

Porsche has introduced the 2027 Taycan with substantial updates. In a first for the brand, the electric sedan now features Hyundai Ioniq 5 N-like simulated gearshifts, as the carmaker aims to enhance overall driver involvement.

Previously, Andreas Preuninger, director of Porsche’s GT division, told Autocar UK that Hyundai’s simulated gearshifts on the Ioniq 5 N were “very impressive” and his “biggest takeaway” after driving one. “We (Porsche GT) are automotive nerds, and discussions about how to improve driving engagement are always happening,” he said.

Dubbed ‘E-Shift’, Porsche’s virtual gearshift system comes with a GT sports steering wheel and column-mounted paddleshifters. Drivers can shift between eight simulated gears at the press of a dedicated button mounted on the steering wheel. Porsche says gear changes via E-Shift are simulated realistically via shift jerks and gear-specific drag torque that’s comparable to the engine-braking behaviour of a combustion-engined car.

Along with paddleshifters, there’s also a virtual rev limiter and a gearshift indicator in the digital instrument cluster. The carmaker has also introduced virtual engine sounds to the electric sedan. Called the Porsche Electric Sport Sound, it adapts to the driving situation depending on load and engine speed to provide sound output accordingly.

E-Shift is available as an optional extra on all Taycan variants, while the top-of-the-line Turbo GT gets it as standard. Porsche says transmission mapping and sound characteristics are tailored to each model, giving each variant its own acoustic and driving profile.

Porsche is offering the Manthey kit on an electric model for the first time. Available only on the Turbo GT, this kit brings additional power, improved aero, more downforce, larger brakes and forged rims. Customers can opt for it as a retrofit or straight from the factory. In May 2026, the Taycan Turbo GT with the Manthey kit set a new Nurburgring EV lap record

Comes with a new-generation infotainment system

While the cabin layout largely remains unchanged, the Taycan gets a new-generation Porsche Communication Management (PCM) infotainment system. Porsche says the system, first offered with the Cayenne Electric, offers up to five times the computing power of its predecessor. There’s also a new Porsche Digital Interaction (Porsche DI) operating system that introduces updated graphics, displays and widgets to access functions quickly. Additionally, an over-the-air (OTA) update is being issued for existing Taycan customers, bringing a ‘Themes’ app, an App Centre and better voice recognition. The wireless smartphone charger now has a faster 25W output.

Gets optional summer tyres for improved range

Porsche has also introduced low-resistance summer tyres for the entry-level Taycan RWD. The carmaker claims that the tyres increase driving range by up to 20km. Porsche says the 20-inch tyres are optimised for both long-distance and city driving and are available as an optional extra for the European and EU member markets.

The 2027 Taycan is offered with an 89kWh or a 105kWh battery, with power figures ranging from 408hp to 1,034hp. The WLTP-claimed range is up to 668km, depending on the variant chosen. Only the base version gets an RWD layout, while the ones above it come with AWD as standard.
