BMW has expanded its 3-series GT line-up in India by adding a lower-spec Sport variant with the diesel engine, priced at Rs 46.60 lakh. The 320d Sport slots under the Luxury Line and costs Rs 2.90 lakh less.

The 320d GT Sport trim is available in two metallic colours – Black Sapphire and Imperial Blue Brilliant Effect – and one non-metallic Alpine White colour. The insides can be had with dual-tone black-red or black-beige interior upholstery, or a beige one. Visually, the car is slightly different outside and in from the Luxury Line trim, with black replacing chrome on the slats of the kidney grille and exhaust pipes, sport seats for the driver and front passenger, and red stitching on the leather-wrapped steering wheel. The 18-inch alloy wheels are also of a different design.

In terms of equipment, the Sport variant misses out on features such as the automatic high-beam assistance function and the 10.5-inch multifunction instrument cluster, though retains kit such as a reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, paddleshifters, 40:20:40 split-folding, tilt-adjustable rear seats with folding head restraints, a 205W nine-speaker system and a panoramic sunroof. BMW’s iDrive system comes as standard along with an 8.7-inch colour screen, navigation, BMW Apps and Bluetooth, USB and Apple CarPlay compatibility.

Safety kit is identical, with six air bags, ABS with brake assist, dynamic stability control, traction control and other tech on offer.

The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine of the 320d GT makes 190hp and 400Nm of torque, which sends power to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Launch control is also offered as standard.

The 3-series GT line-up in India – which now starts with the 320d Sport (Rs 46.60 lakh) and includes the 320d Luxury Line (Rs 49.50 lakh) and the petrol 330i M Sport (Rs 51.20 lakh) – has no direct rivals in India but on price, compare to the Mercedes-Benz C-class (Rs 42.54-46.89 lakh) and Audi’s A4 (Rs 41.47-46.94 lakh) and A5 (Rs 55.40 lakh).
