2009 sales: BMW pips ahead of Merc, Audi

BMW India beats Mercedes and Audi in the luxury car segment for the year 2009

The automobile industry in India has had a positive run in the year 2009 and the luxury car segment has made the most out of it. BMW India, with a market share of over 40 percent, has come out as a clear winner from the year gone by.

BMW has nudged aside Mercedes Benz and Audi in the luxury car segment by increasing its market share from 9% in 2006 to in excess of 40% in 2009.

The company has sold 3619 units in 2009 which include the 3 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series, 7 Series, X3, X5, X6 and the recently launched Z4.

Where the 5 series managed to outsell its younger brother 3 series with sales of 1590 units as compared to 1155 units, the Z4 roadster has attracted 25 buyers in just two months’ of its launch.
