BMW India rolled out its 10,000th made-in-India car from its Chennai plant today. It took the manufacturer less than four years to achieve this milestone.

The BMW Plant in Chennai commenced operations on 29th March 2007, it produces the BMW 3 and 5 series saloons in both petrol and diesel versions. By the end of 2010 it will also start producing the brand’s upcoming compact SUV, the X1. The plant has capacity to produce 5400 units per year on a single shift basis.

The company says it will employ around 400 people by the end of 2010. BMW Group has invested 1.1 billion Indian Rupees. It plans for its investment in India will be increased to 1.8 billion Indian Rupees by the end of 2012.
