Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India is currently working on setting up its fourth production plant. The third plant in Narsapura, Karnataka has been functional since June 2013 and has an annual production capacity of 18lakh units. Now, HMSI will invest approximately Rs 585 crore in building another production line within that existing factory. The new line will become operational in 2016 and this will increase the plant’s total production capacity to 24 lakh units per year.

Honda plans to set up the fourth production plant in Vithalapur, Gujarat, and expects to get it up and running by 2016. Combined with the additional capacity of upcoming 4th plant which is scheduled to become operational in the first half of 2016, this expansion will increase HMSI’s overall annual production capacity to 64 lakh units.

Keita Muramatsu, President and CEO of Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India said, “Honda is strengthening its ‘Make in India’ resolve through steady and strategic investments with a long term objective of creating 39 percent additional capacity within three and a half years. We are planning to increase the number of associates in the plant by approximately 1,900. This investment will provide new opportunities for expansion of brand Honda in the largest two-wheeler market of the world.”
