  • Head office in Chennai now open as well

Yamaha has announced that ‘nearly 50 percent’ of its dealerships across India have reopened. The Japanese company has also partially restarted operations at its Kancheepuram facility in Tamil Nadu.

The company says it received permission to partially reopen operations from the Revenue and Disaster Management Department of Kancheepuram as far back as May 5, and it has been preparing to do so since. These preparations have included circulating a guideline among employees that details how to ensure a secure and healthy work environment. Several awareness sessions were organised to help employees understand the importance of these guidelines to ensure a safe and smooth commencement of operations.

Yamaha says it is taking multiple safety measures for its employees, including health monitoring, social distancing, hygiene maintenance and safety during transit. The company is also carrying out frequent workplace sanitisation and has created more spacious seating arrangements. Staggered timings are being enforced at the canteens and so far, only critical staff – those employees whose roles demand their physical presence – are being called to the facility, while working from home and virtual meetings are encouraged for the rest. Yamaha’s head office in Chennai has also resumed operations in a similar manner.

As far as its dealerships go, the company claims almost 50 percent are now operational for sales and service, as per government guidelines. The company says it’s taking all necessary precautionary measures at its showrooms, workshops and spare-parts counters to ensure safety and protection for customers.

Regarding its other factories in Surajpur, Uttar Pradesh and Faridabad, Haryana, Yamaha says it will continue to follow the respective government guidelines for when operations can be restarted.
