The first 125cc TVS scooter
The biggest talking point of the new Entorq 125 is the fact that it gets a 125cc powerplant. It holds the distinction of being the first TVS scooter to get a 125cc engine and it is undeniably the most powerful TVS scooter to go on sale in India. The 124.8cc displacement air-cooled, single-cylinder motor generates 9.4hp at 7,500rpm and 10.5Nm of torque at 5,500rpm. TVS engineers have equipped the Ntorq’s mill with a 3-valve head. The 3-valve layout will allow the engine to breathe better, which will improve combustion efficiency, thereby increasing performance and mileage. According to TVS, the Ntorq 125 has a top speed of 95kph and it can accelerate from 0-60kph in 9sec.
It’s smart
The new TVS scooter gets SmartXonnect that helps you sync your smartphone with your scooter via Bluetooth. Once connected, you can view 55 different types of data on the scooter's digital console. The interesting features include a lap timer, 0-60kph recorder, 3 trip meters, Bluetooth connectivity, a personalised welcome message, incoming call alerts, SMS alerts, missed call alerts and auto-SMS replies. Other details include last park location assist, service reminder and also navigation assist. As you can see, the SmartXonnect endows the TVS Ntorq 125 with features that were never seen before on any locally manufactured scooter to go on sale in India.
Design & features
The Ntorq 125 has been positioned to attract youngsters and millennials. For this purpose, it gets a sporty styling. The front apron is racked-out and houses a conventional headlight with LED DRLs while the turn indicators have been placed on the handlebar. The rear section is particularly interesting, as the LED tail-lamps are flanked by afterburner-style rear vents that look cool. Other visual highlights include a chunky exhaust muffler and multi-spoke alloy wheels. It’s also the first mass-market scooter to get an engine kill-switch. Other features include an external fuel-filler cap and pass light switch. Underseat storage stands at 22 litres and you also get a USB charger and boot light.
Underpinnings
The underbone frame is similar to the one found on the TVS Jupiter. The chassis has been suspended on telescopic front forks and has a gas-filled hydraulic-type coil spring shock absorber, at the back. Its braking relies on a disc brake at the front and a drum unit at the rear. An interesting fact is that the Ntorq 125 does not have a cheaper front drum brake variant on sale. The scooter gets 12-inch alloy wheels on both ends with 100/80 tubeless tyres in front and 110/80 at the rear. It tips the scale at 116kg and fuel tank capacity stands at 5 litres.
Price & competition
As mentioned before, the TVS Ntorq 125 is available in only one variant which has been priced at Rs 58,750 (ex-showroom, Delhi). At this price point, the Ntorq 125 is of great value, given the amount of features it has on offer and its claimed performance. Talking about competition, the new 125cc scooter from TVS rivals the likes of Honda Grazia and the Aprilia SR 125, which was launched at the 2018 Auto Expo.
