TVS had unveiled the Akula – an all-carbon-fibre race bike concept based on the BMW G 310 R, at Auto Expo 2016. After a slew of spy shots of the bike making rounds on the internet over the last few months, there’s some information on what the final production version of the bike might actually be called.

While everyone originally assumed that the concept’s name, Akula 310, would make it to the production bike, news came out later that the bike would stick to TVS’ naming scheme and would be called the Apache RTR 300. However, based on information on the Government of India’s Intellectual Property website, it seems TVS has filed a trademark for the name 'Apache RR 310S'. The date of this application has been listed as April 26, 2017.

Of course, the Apache RR 310S doesn’t completely cut itself off from the Akula moniker. While it’s not really visible in the spy shots, sources close to the company say that when viewed head on, the fairing of the bike resembled a shark with its mouth open. And this was a conscious design choice on the part of TVS considering that 'Akula' is the Russian word for shark.
