Royal Enfield has added new variants to its Classic 350 and Classic 500 models at Rs 1.57 lakh and Rs 2.05 lakh (on-road, Chennai), respectively.

The new trims get rear disc brakes, a first for Royal Enfield’s motorcycles, and a few cosmetic changes. The smaller-engined 350 comes with a new gunmetal grey paint that can be seen on the fuel tank, fenders and side boxes, and a dark tan seat cover. The Classic 500’s new trim features a matte-black finish for the body and the exhaust, along with black spoke wheels.

Powertrain options remain unchanged; the Classic 350 is powered by the same 346cc single-cylinder motor developing 19.8hp of peak power and 28Nm of torque, while the Classic 500 has the 499cc single-cylinder engine that makes 27.2hp and 41.3Nm of peak torque. Both motors are mated to a five-speed transmission.

While Royal Enfield’s Classic series does not have any direct competitors, the Mahindra Mojo and Bajaj Dominar 400 rival it in terms of specifications and price.

Bookings for the new variants will begin on September 18, 2017, at all Royal Enfield outlets in India.
