BMW Motorrad has rolled out a semi-faired version of its litre-class S1000RR, called the S1000R. This motorcycle houses minimal body panels but undoubtedly resembles its track-focused sibling. This new motorcycle houses the same 999cc, in-line four cylinder, liquid-cooled engine as on the S1000RR which has been tuned differently.

This engine generates maximum power of 160bhp at 11000rpm and peak torque of 11.4kgm at 9250rpm. The S1000R has been tuned more for the low and mid-range in its powerband to make it more rider-friendly in an urban environment. The S1000R gets a ride-by-wire throttle, automatic stability control, traction control, damping control and a race anti-lock braking system.

The S1000R tips the scales at 207kg and uses inverted telescopic forks upfront and a monoshock at the rear which comes bolted onto an alloy swingarm.
