Pierer Mobility, the parent company for KTM, Husqvarna, Gas Gas and R Raymon bicycles, has released a half-year report that discloses details of an upcoming Husqvarna electric scooter.

  • The Husqvarna electric scooter will go on sale in 2021

  • To be manufactured by Bajaj at Chakan

  • Will be based on a common platform capable of using 4-10kW motors

We first got wind of the upcoming Husqvarna electric scooter in December 2019, when a report released by Pierer Mobility mentioned a new Husqvarna electric scooter was under development. The latest Pierer Mobility report sheds light on a few more important details about this scooter.

The first point is that this scooter will be powered by a 4kW electric motor. The report states that Husqvarna is working on a common EV platform that will be able to accommodate motors ranging between 4kW and 10kW. Another electric motorcycle, called the Husqvarna E-Pilen, is also under development and is based on the same platform. However, the E-Pilen will only be market-ready by 2022. The Bajaj Chetak already uses a 4kW motor and we previously reported that higher performance EVs for the KTM or Husqvarna brands based on the Bajaj platform were under development.

This new Pierer Mobility report also gives us a look at what the scooter could look like. While this image shows quite concept-like scooter, it is different from the one seen in the earlier December 2019 report. While the wheels might not make it to production, the funky floating front apron will be a unique design element if it does. The chunky side panels follow the theme we’ve seen on the recent Vitpilen and Svartpilen 250 as does the handsome silver colour scheme with hints of neon green. The split seats will also be a unique element on a scooter in India. The name E-01 is clearly visible on the side, but it’s a little too early to know if this name will make it to production or if it’s just an internal code.

The Pierer Mobility report states that this upcoming Husqvarna electric scooter is going to be manufactured by Bajaj at Chakan. It goes on to confirm that this electric scooter will be ready for a market launch by 2021, which isn’t that far away. If this electric scooter is indeed based on the Chetak platform, it should be reasonably cost-effective and we could see it retailed out of the vast KTM/Husqvarna dealer network.
