Fans of the Italian motorcycle brand, Cagiva, will be delighted to hear that the company is set to make a return this year. However, this time around, it will debut as an electric bike maker; gone are days of the Ducati V-twin-powered offerings. Interestingly, the company is expected to showcase models by the end of this year – with a probable unveil at the 2018 EICMA motorcycle show – and begin selling them by early 2019.

Cagiva will mark MV Agusta’s entry into the electric two-wheeler market, with the models expected to be mid-capacity and sit somewhere between a regular electric bicycle and electric superbikes. MV Agusta, CEO, Giovanni Castiglioni, was quoted saying that he believes in electric and that there is great potential. He also said they are investing in lightweight fun bikes that will be compact bikes and off-road orientated.

Cagiva was founded back in 1950 in Varese, Italy. In its history, the motorcycle company has won races in Dakar and Motocross competitions, as well as in Grand Prix motorcycle racing. We are excited that an iconic marquee like Cagiva has been revived, and we are looking forward to its electrified future.
