BMW India is all set to make a major announcement in Delhi on July 18, 2018. That announcement, fellow enthusiasts, is the launch of the motorcycle siblings you’ve all been awaiting – the BMW Motorrad G 310 R and G 310 GS. Bookings for the motorcycles officially opened on June 8, 2018, at an amount of Rs 50,000.

If the grapevine is to be believed, the naked, street-friendly G 310 R is expected to be launched with a price tag of around Rs 3.5 lakh, while its more adventurous twin, the G 310 GS should be priced at around Rs 4 lakh (on-road, India). However, more competitive pricing (in the range of the KTM 390 Duke) will make a stronger case for the BMWs, given that these are ultimately single-cylinder machines with milder performance than the KTM. Deliveries are expected to commence in the last week of July or in August.

Indian enthusiasts have had to endure a rather long wait for BMW Motorrad’s entry-level models. The G 310 R was first showcased in India at the 2016 Auto Expo, while the G 310 GS made its maiden Indian appearance at the 2018 Auto Expo. Both the BMW 310s have been developed in Germany and are built at TVS' plant in Hosur, India.

Like the TVS Apache RR 310, the G 310 R and G 310 GS comes with a reversed-cylinder design that slopes towards the rear wheel, instead of a conventional engine layout. This engine is a 313cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder unit with four valves and a DOHC cylinder head. It churns out 34hp of power and 28Nm of torque on both bikes and is paired to a six-speed gearbox. Both bikes also get tubular steel frames, five-spoke alloy wheels and ABS. The kerb weights for the G 310 R and G 310 GS are 158.5kg and 169.5kg, respectively.
