The updated Jawa Forty Two has been launched at Rs 1.84 lakh (ex-showroom, India.) We first spotted the bike testing, a little over a month ago, and now it’s here. We’ve already ridden the bike, and you can click here to read our full review.

  • New Jawa Forty Two gets alloy wheels, blacked out theme

  • Costs more than the standard model

  • Refined engine makes 0.8hp more

The bike you see here is not a replacement for the current Jawa Forty Two, and will sell side-by-side in the brand’s showrooms. While most of the obvious changes are style-based, there are some mechanical improvements hidden under the skin as well.

New Jawa Forty Two: Design

The most significant difference is that the new Forty Two sports alloy wheels, and not wire-spoked ones, like on the older bike. These black wheels support tubeless tyres and they will be available as accessories for Classic Jawa customers and older Forty Two owners.

The overall design of the bike has received no major changes, but components like the front and rear suspension, the trim around the headlight and the exhaust have ditched their chrome finish for a blacked-out theme. There are new pin stripes on the wheel and a fat racing stripe over the fuel tank as well. The bike also features new bar-end mirrors as standard equipment, with a headlamp grille, small fly screen and rear metal available as accessories.

New Jawa Forty Two: Engine and chassis

Jawa says that it has strengthened the chassis in strategic points and also adjusted the preload in the front suspension. This new Jawa has also lost a kilo in weight, now weighing 171kg. This has been achieved by removing the earlier catalytic convertor from underneath the bike. Now, there are two smaller catcons situated where the exhaust pipes emerge from the engine.

There have also been some changes within the engine that have resulted in a small increase in power – it’s up by 0.8hp. Peak output figures are now 27.3hp and 27Nm of torque.

New Jawa Forty Two price

Jawa tells us that all the mechanical- and feature-based changes you see on this bike will soon be available on the normal Forty Two and the Jawa Classic. This new Forty Two is only available in the dual-channel ABS variant and costs Rs 1.84 lakh.
