Triumph India is expected to launch its updated Street Triple RS in March 2020. The middleweight sport naked gets refreshed styling, upgraded features and an engine with a meatier mid-range that’s also Euro 5 (BS6)-compliant.

The 2020 Street Triple RS will become Triumph's second BS6-compliant two-wheeler in India after the Triumph Rocket 3. The updated Street Triple RS costs only around £400 (Rs 37,000) more than the outgoing variant in the UK – we could see a similar hike here, albeit slightly higher. For reference, the outgoing RS is priced at Rs 11.13 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The new model looks a lot more aggressive and focused than the outgoing RS and that's evident in the shape of the new twin LED headlamps. Not only do they lend the RS a mean face, but they also feature an aggressively-styled, integrated DRL that further adds to the effect. Besides the new headlights, Triumph has also changed the body panels, the flyscreen, side panels, rear unit, seat cowl and belly pan, all of which have been shaped to make for a sportier-looking motorcycle. Triumph has also taken this opportunity to introduce a new set of graphics on the TFT instrument display that also features Bluetooth and GoPro controls via an accessory chip.

The 765cc, inline-triple is said to have been updated as part of Triumph’s Moto 2 engine development process and has been carried out by the same team. It meets Euro 5 emission norms and gets a new, free-flowing exhaust with a carbon-fibre tip. The new RS’ engine develops 123hp (the same as before), while the maximum torque has gone up from 77Nm to 79Nm. But, crucially, the engineers have managed to reduce rotational inertia by 7 percent, resulting in punchier low- and mid-range grunt. Lastly, the sport-naked features a new up-and-down quickshifter, replacing the current’s ones unit that only allows for upshifts.
