Large wheel arches add volume to design. 16-inch wheels attractive but look a tad small under larger wheel arches. Black embellishment under window line tapers rearwards. 1.2 petrol and 1.5 diesel engines are BS6-compliant. Gloss black finish to tailgate is very attractive. 345-litre boot can hold quite a lot but loading lip is high. Altroz's part-digital instruments look better than they are in practice. Turquoise surround for centre console adds flavour to cabin. Leather-wrapped and flat-bottomed steering great to hold. Front door pockets include umbrella holders. Front armrest slides fore and aft, and lifts to reveal storage. 15-litre glovebox is cooled and gets compartments for different items. 5-speed gearboxes are standard fit. A dual-clutch auto for the petrol Altroz is in development. Front seats are large and accommodating. While not the roomiest hatchback, the Altroz offers plenty of space at the back. The Altroz looks quite substantial as sub-4m hatchbacks go. While the silhouette is conventional, the detailing makes the Altroz look special. The dashboard isn't radical in look but the multi-layer effect works well. Black embellishment under window line gives illusion of a sporty tipped-forward stance. Large swept-back headlights and blacked-out grille give Altroz it's distinctive face. Rear door handles reside on the C-pillar rather than on the doors. All 4 doors uniquely open to 90-degrees to ease ingress-egress. Projector headlamps part of the package. Fog lamps also house DRLs. Edgy tail lamps look sporty. 7.0-inch touchscreen gets Android Auto and Apple CarPlay but isn't particularly slick. Tata has revealed the India-spec Altroz premium hatchback; it will rival the Hyundai i20, Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza and the Honda Jazz in our market.
