I want to buy a new 7-seater car. My driving will mainly be in the city with occasional highway trips. I need a car with decent cabin space, good boot capacity, and some useful features. I’m considering the Mahindra XUV700 and Hyundai Alcazar. Should I go for the XUV700, or is it worth waiting for its facelift?

The updated Mahindra XUV700 is expected to launch in 2026. While its silhouette will remain largely similar to the current version, several design elements are likely to be inspired by the XEV 9e.

XUV700 is already a very compelling package, so if you’re not in a hurry, it’s advisable to wait for the facelift, as 2026 is only a few months away.

Given your height, the Tata Sierra would be the better option among the rest. The Sierra gets a spacious cabin with good headroom and is a comfy cruiser over long drives thanks to the option of a diesel engine. Even the turbo-petrol is punchy, has good performance and is enjoyable to drive.The Seltos is also not too far behind, and while it isn't as roomy as the Sierra, the quality of the cabin is better, and it also gets a diesel engine that is quite nice on long trips. Where it falls behind the Sierra is the ride comfort, and hence we would recommend the Sierra for its all-round positives given your requirements.

Since your running is quite high and that too in the city, a strong hybrid powertrain would be a good option to consider. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara or the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder are mid-size SUVs with a strong hybrid powertrain and are excellent in the city. The battery and motor provide enough power for everyday driving, and they offer good ride comfort too. That said, if you do not prefer a strong-hybrid SUV, the new updated Skoda Kushaq will be launching soon. It gets the same engine as before, but the 1.0-litre TSI motor will not get an 8-speed automatic instead. If you are a keen driver and enjoy getting behind the wheel, the Kushaq would be a better choice. We would recommend that you wait for the launch. The Tata Harrier just got a new petrol engine, which is refined, but it's a bit too big for the city and isn't as polished as the Kushaq.

Hi, I am confused between buying the Hyundai Venue HX6 DCT and the Mahindra REVX A AT. My monthly usage is around 500 km, and I prefer a petrol variant. Please advise which would be a better choice.

Both the Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV 3XO, in their HX 6 DCT and RevX AT guise, are extremely close when it comes to price and what they offer. The Venue is the newer, more modern-looking car on the inside and out, but the 3XO is more powerful with a 131hp engine. The 3XO is also more spacious in the rear seat, while the Venue gets a slightly bigger boot. Features on the 3XO are better, boasting a panoramic sunroof, leatherette upholstery and dual-zone climate control, to name a few. When it comes to ride and handling, too, it is the 3XO that pips ahead of the Venue. We would recommend the 3XO in this case as it offers a lot more for the money and is the better value proposition.
