I have been using a Nexon EV for the past three years and would now like to upgrade to another EV. What would be an ideal replacement below ₹50 lakh? We are a family of three, the car will be self-driven, and I prefer something compact.

Check out the Volvo EX30 - it's a compact crossover with a high-tech, luxurious interior and loads of features with a focus on safety. It comes with a large 65kWh battery with a WLTP range of 480km and strong performance from its 272hp single motor setup. Its quirky design is very EV forward and will stand out on the road for looking like nothing else on the market.

The only consideration you have to make is that, being a compact electric car, it's not super spacious in the rear seat. There are other great EVs at this price, but none of them are compact - like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and BYD Seal.

Hi Autocar Team, I am planning to upgrade from my Hyundai i10 Sportz 1.2 AT and am looking for a new automatic car with a maximum budget of ₹11 lakh (on-road). The car will be used mostly by my parents for city driving. Mostly city use by your parents, low yearly running, and a hard cap of about Rs 11 lakh on-road points to the Honda Amaze CVT.Why this fits your brief: compared to your 2013 i10 AT or the other AMTs you've shortlisted, the Amaze’s CVT will feel calmer and smoother at low speeds, so stop-go traffic will be less tiring. The cabin is simple, the seats are supportive, and visibility is good, so it is easy to drive and park. Petrol is the right pick for 6,000-7,000 km a year.Two watch-outs: the Amaze sits low, so getting in and out is not as upright as something like the Hyundai Exter. Fuel efficiency also won’t be as good as the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. In our real-world tests, the Amaze managed 13.28 kpl (combined), while the Dzire averaged 15.41 kpl (combined). If that is a concern, the Dzire is a good bet, though the AMT won’t be as smooth as a CVT. Your usage and requirements point to a tough yet comfortable diesel SUV with lots of space. In that use, the Tata Safari 6-seat diesel automatic Accomplished X+ fits you best. It rides comfortably on broken surfaces, feels steady at highway speeds, and the captain seats in the middle row are wide and easy to get in and out of, which matters when you are in the car for hours every day. They're also widely adjustable and even ventilated, which is a bonus. The diesel with an automatic gearbox means less effort in slow stretches and relaxed cruising between towns, and diesel makes sense for your monthly distance.Know the trade-offs. With all three rows up, boot space is tight, so plan for a roof carrier if you carry a lot of luggage, and Tata's aftersales and service network isn't quite as good as some other brands. If you are fine with a manual, the Toyota Innova Crysta 7-seat diesel remains a great long-term workhorse and is very reliable too. However, it's not as comfortable or well equipped as the Tata Safari.As for EVs, your two options are the Vinfast VF MP7 and the BYD eMax7. However, due to their long wheelbases, slightly lower ground clearances and underbody battery packs, we'd recommend sticking to an ICE MPV for your usage on rough roads and quarries. Coming from your 2016 Brezza diesel, you will like the strong pull from low speeds, and the automatic will make life a lot easier in traffic. The steering is light, the seat is high, and the view out is clear, which helps on busy roads. Hyundai’s service reach is on par with what you are used to with Maruti, so ownership should be simple.One thing to keep in mind is that the back seat is fine for two adults, but fitting three across is tight. If you need more space, consider the Kia Syros diesel HTK+, which is easily the roomiest among the compact SUVs.Overall, for your mix of city and highway use and a focus on fuel efficiency, the Venue diesel fits your brief best. Also, with new diesels, try to do a good highway run every few weeks to help keep the exhaust filter clear.
