Please suggest the best car within a budget of Rs 20 lakh. My key requirements are fun-to-drive performance, ventilated seats, wireless charging, auto hold and hill assist, comfortable rear seats, a rear HD camera with dynamic guidelines, and a 360-degree camera.

Unfortunately, in your budget, no car ticks all those boxes without compromising in at least one area. The best option would be to increase your budget by a few lakhs and get the Hyundai Creta N Line N10, which offers all the features you are after, as well as a fun-to-drive package, including a potent 160hp turbo petrol engine and a well-set-up chassis.

However, if you absolutely must stick to your budget of Rs 20 lakh, consider the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX7 Luxury 1.2 T-GDi. You get a potent 131hp turbo petrol engine, a robust chassis that offers good ride comfort and handling, a comfy and spacious rear seat and a good feature set. All you miss out on are ventilated front seats.

I am planning to buy a car for my 22-year-old son, who will primarily be driving in the city in Mumbai. He has just learned to drive. Should I go for a new or a used car? My budget is below ₹20 lakh.

We would recommend you shortlist the Skoda Kylaq 1.0 Turbo-AT and the Hyundai Venue N Line 1.0 Turbo-AT. Given that your son has only recently learnt to drive, it will be better to buy him a 'relatively' compact car that's both user-friendly. It has a good audio system, and at the same time has the 'cool' factor that a young driver would be looking for. Both the Kylaq and Venue N Line fit the bill. Also, the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engines in these cars will be adequately powerful and fun to drive, without feeling overwhelming for a new driver.A hatchback alternative that you could consider is the Hyundai i20 N Line Turbo-DCT, which should cost you around Rs 14 lakh for the top-end version. All these will comfortably fall within your Rs 20 lakh budget with some cash to spare, which you could utilise to upgrade the vehicle down the line, once he has mastered the art of driving, and wants a bigger car.

I have a budget of 15L, and I'm confused between Elvate and Creta. I currently own a Honda Amaze 2014 model, which has been a nice car that has 2.5L in odometer. Which one will be a good upgrade, as my travel is 3000 km per month in the city?

Go for the Honda Elevate V CVT - for 3,000 km a month in city traffic and a Rs 15 lakh budget, it will be the smoothest and least-stress upgrade from your Amaze. You’ll feel right at home with the familiar Honda driving manners, light steering and clear view out. The CVT is seamless in operation and will make your daily commutes easier. Given how well your Amaze has served you, Honda’s long-life engines and simple ownership should appeal for the next few years, too.One thing to be aware of: the CVT does have that typical rubber band effect when you push the engine hard, and the cabin isn't quite as premium as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Pick the Kia Seltos HTE instead if you can stretch a bit for a plusher cabin, extra features and a slightly quieter, more cushioned city drive. On the test drive, drive in heavy traffic for 10 minutes and do a few tight parking moves - that will show you which one feels easier day to day.
