Please suggest I want to buy 8 lakhs budget car ?

Asked by: Nilesh

Maruti Suzuki Swift can be a good pick in this budget. You can go for the top-of-the-line variant specced with all the features on offer.

The Swift is a tried-and-tested product and offers a good balance between performance, fuel efficiency, comfort, and features. Maruti Suzuki’s after-sales experience is generally reliable, and the Swift’s strong popularity ensures good resale value.

My budget is ₹15 lakh, and I’m looking for a comfortable and stylish 5-seater SUV with a slightly premium feel. I was inclined towards the MG Hector, but its on-road price is more than ₹20 lakh. I can wait if any new launches are on the horizon. Is the new Sierra worth considering?

If you are looking for an SUV with a good luxury feel, we would recommend that you look at the compact SUV segment instead of the mid-size market. While you will get mid-size SUVs for under Rs 15 lakh, they will all be the lower variants, which will not look or feel very luxurious. The best options here would be the Kia Seltos and the Tata Sierra. However, as we mentioned, if you do look at a segment below, you could get a Hyundai Venue, which has a very premium cabin in both look and feel and will be very well equipped too. This is the SUV we would recommend to give you that luxury feel at your price point.

I want to purchase a new any automatic diesel car budget of 13 lacs. My running is approx 1200-1500 Km in a month. 70 % in city and 30% in in highway. Please suggest suitable options for me.

There are only two options that would meet your requirements of a diesel automatic and under Rs 13 lakhs. These are the Mahindra XUV 3XO and the Tata Nexon. It would be nice to know a bit more about your requirements to pinpoint one. The Tata Nexon is a good option, as fuel efficiency is very important for you, as its efficiency is higher than the 3XO. In our real-world tests, we got an average of 18kpl for the Nexon and 15.5kpl for the Mahindra. If, however, driving pleasure and interior space are important, then you would be better off in the 3XO. The engine is refined and delivers good performance. Also, the car is spacious from inside, especially at the rear, where you will find more passenger room than in the Nexon.

I am planning to buy a new car up to ₹17 lakh, with a yearly running of about 12,000 km. I am thinking of the Tata Sierra. Please guide me, as safety and comfort are my priorities.

Yes, the Tata Sierra will meet your requirements of safety and comfort very well. In terms of active safety, the Sierra has good grip around corners and good high-speed stability, too. The safety equipment is also elaborate with 6 airbags, electronic stability program (ESP) and after-impact braking standard across variants. The Sierra is yet to be tested at either GNCAP or BNCAP; however, Tata Motors says the car is designed for a good rating and given the company's track record, this should be the case. As for comfort, the ride quality is good, and there is ample space inside. The seats, too, are comfy and at the rear, there's enough space for three to be seated in comfort.

I already own a TVS Jupiter 125 SXE and am now planning to buy an electric scooter. I recently test-rode the River Indie and was quite impressed. My daily commute is around 20km (to and fro), and my monthly running is approximately 600-700km, including visits to my in-laws, who live about 30km away and whom I visit 2-3 times a month. I would like your advice on whether the River Indie would be a good purchase for my usage. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

The River Indie is a competent product from a newly-established startup, and if you have a showroom and service center in your city, it is an EV that definitely deserves serious consideration. Given that your daily running is 30km, the Indie's range should be more than sufficient for your needs. If you are comfortable with its weight and size, then you can go ahead and buy this River scooter.
