Currently, I own a Honda City V CVT. For me, this is the best car. I have driven around 16,000 km in last 2 years. However, now my running has increased to 200 km per day. I find EV more suitable for future. Kindly recommend me a good reliable EV or should I go for a diesel or strong hybrid?

With 200km a day, an EV only makes sense if you have reliable home charging and your usage is mostly predictable. Then too, such high usage will require frequent charging, which in turn will take a toll on battery health sooner, and this affects performance, range and resale value. A diesel or strong hybrid is the more practical choice for your usage - the diesel being better suited to greater highway use, and the hybrid to greater city use. The Kia Seltos diesel automatic is the best all-rounder. It is refined, efficient and will handle your daily mileage with ease. A strong hybrid like the Maruti Suzuki Victoris Hybrid is worth considering if your driving is a mix of city and highway, but at 200km a day, the diesel will still be more cost-effective. The Honda City Hybrid is a good car, but it is not as efficient on the highway as a diesel.

I am planning to buy a new SUV under Rs 30 lakh and am open to both five- and seven-seater options. I have tried the Toyota Innova HyCross non-hybrid, Mahindra XUV 7XO, Hyundai Alcazar, Kia Seltos and Renault Duster, but I am confused about which one to choose. My main priorities are space, comfort and a good engine. My running is not very high, at just under 1,000km a month. Please advise.

Go for the Toyota Innova HyCross non-hybrid. Your priorities are space, comfort and a good engine, and the HyCross delivers on all three. It is one of the most spacious cars in the segment, with a genuinely usable third row and a comfortable ride that makes it an excellent family car. The petrol engine is smooth, refined and well suited to your running of under 1,000 km a month, where the hybrid premium is harder to justify.The Mahindra XUV 7XO is a strong alternative with a more powerful engine and a more feature-rich cabin, but the HyCross has the edge on space, comfort and long-term ownership experience.The Hyundai Alcazar and Kia Seltos are good cars, but they do not offer the same level of space or comfort, and the Renault Duster is more of a driver's car than a family car. The Toyota car mentioned above is the car you will be happiest with after five years of ownership.

In your Rs 20-30 lakh price budget, you have quite a few diesel options to consider. Our top recommendation would be the Kia Seltos. The GTX (O) variant will fit your budget and comes with a proven 1.5-litre diesel engine that is reliable, efficient and torquey. This Kia car also comes paired with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox that is smooth to shift and offers a seamless and hassle-free drive in the city. The GTX (O) is also the top-spec model that comes extremely well-equipped with the likes of ADAS, LED headlamps, wireless connectivity, panoramic sunroof and a lot more. If you want to stray away from a diesel but still want the peace of mind of a Maruti, then a strong hybrid is also worth consideration. The Victoris, in its top spec, ZXi Plus (O), will get you a strong hybrid with an automatic gearbox and along with that you will get a decent amount of equipment as well. The strong hybrid means you have electric assist and that gives you good low-end performance in the city. Off-the-line response is a lot better and a lot like diesel, but then you get the convenience of an automatic, offering a nice smooth drive in the city. So overall it comes down to you. If you want to stick to a diesel, the Seltos is our top choice. With 70-80% highway usage and a preference for a diesel automatic, the Kia Seltos diesel automatic is the most sensible upgrade from your i20 Active. The Seltos diesel is a good highway performer with a refined engine, a well-sorted automatic gearbox and a comfortable, premium cabin. The 1.5 diesel is very efficient too.The Tata Sierra diesel automatic is a good alternative if you prioritise ride comfort, rear seat space and a large boot, but the Seltos is the more polished and proven product overall.

I am new to driving and am looking for a sub-4-metre petrol SUV with a torque converter automatic gearbox. My budget is around Rs 12-13 lakh on-road. I have shortlisted two options: the Skoda Kylaq Signature automatic and the Mahindra XUV 3XO MX2 Pro automatic. We are a family of five. My current usage is mostly within the city, but based on my future work requirements, it could shift to an 80:20 mix of city and highway driving.

For a new driver with predominantly city use, its 1.0 TSI with a 6-speed torque-converter automatic is smooth and easy to drive, while the compact dimensions make it relatively easy to manage in traffic. It also has a more mature, planted feel on the highway.The Mahindra XUV 3XO MX2 Pro AT is the better choice if rear-seat space is the priority. Its cabin is wider and more accommodating for a family of five, and its 1.2 turbo-petrol makes 200Nm, giving it stronger low-end and mid-range performance than the Kylaq.However, the 3XO's boot is also one of its compromises, while the Kylaq offers a better balance of driving dynamics, boot space and highway manners. The Audi New Q3 might be significantly more expensive than the other options you've listed. However, if you're referring to the outgoing model available at a discounted price, we'd recommend you to certainly consider it. The Audi Q3 has a strong 2.0 TSI engine, and its ride comfort is excellent too. Additionally, the all-wheel drive system makes it an able handler. So if you like to drive, this one is certainly worth considering. You'll also appreciate the cabin quality and seat comfort. And while it has the basics, some features like ventilated seats, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, powered tailgate, etc are missing.The BMW X1 will be a lot more spacious in comparison, however its turbo-petrol engine doesn't match the Audi's performance or responsiveness.
