I am looking to buy a 125–150 cc scooter for commuting and have shortlisted the Honda Activa 125 and the TVS NTorq 150. My preference is the Activa 125 because of its overall comfort-oriented setup, and it offers adequate performance as well. However, it doesn’t come with ABS, which is why I have shortlisted the NTorq 150 as a backup - solely from the ABS perspective, as I am not interested in the extra power or flashy looks and features. I planned to purchase the Activa 125 in 2025, but I held off because of a report I read on Autocar Online last June stating that the government was likely to make ABS mandatory on 125 cc two-wheelers. When I checked with scooter showrooms, it seems no one has any idea about this. Has the plan been scrapped? Because if that’s the case, I might as well go ahead with the NTorq instead of waiting longer. I would really appreciate your guidance in this matter. Thanks in advance.

Since your daily running is quite low, you should look at a petrol scooter - preferably brand new, for the peace of mind and the manufacturer's warranty it will come with. We'd recommend looking at the base variants of the Honda Activa 110, Suzuki Acess and TVS Jupiter 110. All scooters will be friendly for a newer rider because of their low kerb weights and approachable seat heights. If, however, your budget doesn't permit you to go for a new scooter, then a pre-owned Activa or Access would be our recommendation. The Activa and Access are some of the most popular scooters available, and finding a good example will be fairly straightforward. Because of their popularity and widespread service network, sourcing replacement parts should also be quite easy.

The Royal Enfield Meteor 350 has a very manageable 765mm seat height, which should suit your stature. But if you want the lowest 350cc Royal Enfield bike, then it would be the Goan Classic. The Goan has an even lower 750mm perch, which will be even easier to flatfoot.Do bear in mind that the Goan Classic's handlebars are taller than usual, and this is something you should pay attention to on a test ride. We'd advise taking test rides of both the Meteor and Goan and pick whichever one suits you best and the one you prefer the look of more.

If you are looking for the best comfort on a petrol scooter, the TVS Jupiter 110 and Suzuki Access are the best options. The Jupiter has 12-inch wheels at both ends, which will also help round off bigger bumps more nicely. It's also got a winged preload adjuster, which will easily help you adjust preload when carrying a passenger and luggage. If you are looking for something in the EV space, then you should look at the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, Vida VX2 Plus and Ather Rizta. These scooters have spacious riding positions, comfortable suspension setups and come from reputed manufacturers with widespread and proven service networks. Take a test ride of these scooters before you decide.
