I think one thing to keep in mind is that those who are plying Omni's and EECOs are using it as a commercial vehicle. From an accounting perspective the vehicle is completely paid off in few years, but since it continues to run & generate revenue for the establishment, they continue to use it. There is hardly any resale value for these beaten down vehicles and generally sold off only when they start spending more time in the garage rather than earning revenue. And, since it is used for business there is no desire to upgrade to a newer model. And, through it all, the environment suffers and the very people who they count as customers suffer as well.

Can dealers force customers to buy car insurance only from them even though at inflated cost?

No, they can’t legally force you to buy insurance from them. IRDAI rules give you full freedom to choose any insurer or agent, and a dealer cannot refuse delivery if you present a valid policy that matches the car’s details. What they do is push pricey packages and imply “cashless only if you buy ours” to scare you. Cashless is just a tie-up between your insurer and the workshop, not a law. If your insurer isn’t on that workshop’s network, you can still get reimbursement. That’s the only real trade-off.Walk in with two outside quotes and ask the dealer to match them or at least explain the higher premium line by line. If they still insist, ask them to put that refusal in writing. Then escalate to the carmaker’s customer care and copy the dealership GM. You can also complain to the National Consumer Helpline at 1915, and IRDAI’s grievance cell at 155255 or on the IGMS portal.

We would strongly advise against installing aftermarket CNG on any of these SUVs. All three – the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV 7XO and Scorpio N - are large, heavy vehicles with powerful turbocharged petrol engines. Fitting CNG to such engines is not recommended, as it can lead to drivability issues, increased wear and potential reliability concerns over time. More importantly, these SUVs are not designed with CNG in mind, and the installation can compromise safety and performance.If fuel economy is a top priority, opt for their diesel versions instead. The Mahindra and Tata offer strong torque, excellent highway efficiency and are well-suited to long-distance touring. If you are set on CNG, it is better to look at smaller, naturally aspirated petrol cars that are either factory-fitted or specifically designed for CNG use.Between the three, the XUV 7XO diesel would be our recommendation. It offers a more modern package, better ride comfort and a more premium cabin than the Scorpio N, while the Safari diesel is also a strong contender if you prefer Tata's design and feature set. But CNG should not be the deciding factor here.
