When is the next-generation Hyundai Ioniq 5 expected to launch in India?

The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 has just been launched and is available for Rs 55.7 lakh (ex-showroom). The big change is a larger battery 84kWh battery (up from 72.6kWh ) with a corresponding increase in range to 690km on a full charge, which is quite substantial.

Other changes are mainly cosmetic with styling enhancements to the front and rear bumpers, a new set of alloy wheels and a redesigned rear spoiler. The interiors are largely unchanged and continue with the same airy and spacious cabin, connected cockpit, and in-car payment support for charging.

Hyundai has also added a few safety and convenience features like rear parking collision-avoidance assist and enhanced parking distance warnings.

I am planning to drive from Hyderabad to Chennai on a trip in a Tata Punch EV 40 kWh variant. Is this trip feasible in the Punch EV? Also, approximately how many charging stops would I need to make along the way?

Yes, it’s doable in a Punch EV 40kWh, but you’ll need three DC fast‑charge stops; keep a fourth short top‑up as backup. Hyderabad to Chennai is about 630 km. In the Punch EV, you can expect roughly 240km per full charge on the highway if you cruise at about 80-90kph with AC. Start at 100%, and stop every 200kms or so at a DC fast charger.There are plenty of chargers along the way, but plan your stops in advance along with alternatives if they are out of order or occupied. Aim for 30-50 kW DC wherever possible; 20-80% typically takes about 40 minutes. The drive is already about 11 hours and with charging stops, it will be closer to 14 hours. If that seems like too much time on the road then plan a night halt on the way.

Consider the Kia Carens Clavis 1.5 turbo-petrol DCT. It is not so large as to become cumbersome in the city, yet it comfortably seats seven and has a genuinely usable third row. The 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine has enough power when fully loaded, and highway performance is strong too. Your budget will get you one of the mid or upper trims, which are very well equipped and offer good value for money. Kia’s after-sales service also has a good reputation in India.One catch is that the DCT can hesitate at times, but overall, it is quite smooth.If you want a more SUV-like presence, the Hyundai Alcazar is a solid choice too. It uses the same powertrain as the Clavis, so the driving experience is broadly similar. However, the Alcazar’s third row is not quite as comfortable for adults as the Clavis’s.Overall, the Kia Carens Clavis is a good fit for your needs.

New Seltos or Carens Clavis? I'm pretty confused. The Seltos was always my first choice, but if the Carens has the same engine, why not go for a 6/7-seater with almost the same dimensions and for a little extra cost? I'm considering this because we're a family of 5, and occasionally our extended family joins us on drives.

If you need the added space and practicality, go for the Carens Clavis. With a family of 5 and extra folks joining at times, the third row and the longer wheelbase make everyday life easier. You get the same engines and gearboxes as the Seltos, so the driving experience and mileage will be similar, but the Carens gives you far more cabin flexibility - slide and recline second row, a usable third row for kids or shorter adults, and vents for everyone.Bear in mind that with all three rows up, boot space is limited, so on full-house trips you will have to pack light or fold a seat. It's also worth noting that the 2026 Seltos is now a generation ahead of the Clavis, which means a wider body, softer suspension and new-age electronics and features.However, for your use case and priorities, the Carens Clavis gets you some much-needed extra space and flexibility.

Buy the Kia Seltos. It is simply easier to live with for most buyers, thanks to a much wider service network and many more variant and powertrain choices, including good automatics across a wider price range. For daily city runs with the odd highway trip, the Seltos will feel like the more complete package and it has a more spacious and premium cabin. The Skoda Kylaq will suit you only if you really enjoy driving. It feels tighter and more confidence inspiring on the move, and the steering has more feel. If you plan long, frequent road trips and care more about how it drives than gadgets, that’s where the Kylaq shines. The flip side is fewer dealers and fewer variant choices.

The Mahindra XEV 9S and XEV 9e would both be excellent choices within your budget. The key difference comes down to your space requirements. The XEV 9S is the one to choose if you need the flexibility of a 7-seat layout, while the XEV 9e is a 5-seater with a sleeker design and more emphasis on style. Beyond that, both models share the same battery packs and electric motors, so there is little to separate them in terms of performance, charging capability or range.While both have claimed ranges comfortably above 500km, in the real world you should expect closer to 450-470km on a full charge, depending on your driving style, speed and usage conditions. Even so, that remains among the best figures available in this price range.Your 5kW solar setup is an added advantage and should help keep charging costs very low over the long term.

I own a Hyundai Venue Turbo Petrol, which is driven around 4,000 km per year and is occasionally used by my parents. I have been considering to upgrade it, as I am tired of spending money on maintenance. The car has been problematic since its second year of ownership. I am currently considering the Kia Syros HTK (EX) manual and HTK+ (DCT). However, some automobile enthusiasts have advised me against buying a DCT if I am looking for a hassle-free ownership experience, especially since the car will mostly be driven in Delhi’s office-hour traffic and the overall running is quite low. Could you please suggest whether I should opt for the DCT, stick with a manual, or consider a diesel automatic instead? Alternatively, if there are better options within a budget of Rs. 15 lakh, I would be open to considering them. I can also wait if there are any promising new launches expected this year within my budget. I am not interested in an EV at the moment. Thanks in advance.

Given your low annual running and predominantly city use in Delhi, a diesel does not make sense. Modern diesels are happiest when regularly driven on longer runs, and with just 4,000km a year, the higher purchase cost and potential emission system issues are difficult to justify.As for DCTs, they have become far more reliable than early examples, but if the priority is a smooth, stress-free ownership experience in heavy urban traffic, a torque-converter automatic is still the safer bet. It is generally smoother at low speeds and better suited to constant stop-start driving.Rather than moving to a Syros DCT, it would be worth considering the Skoda Kylaq automatic or the Mahindra XUV 3XO automatic. Both use torque-converter gearboxes and offer a more relaxed driving experience in city conditions. The Kylaq feels particularly polished to drive, while the 3XO counters with a richer feature list and a more spacious cabin.If you like the Syros, the manual remains a sensible choice given your limited annual usage, but if an automatic is preferred, a torque-converter-equipped rival would be a better fit than a DCT.
