Hello Autocar Team, I am planning to buy a new automatic car and have heard that the Maruti Suzuki Brezza facelift and the Honda Elevate are expected to launch soon. Could you please advise on the expected launch timelines for both these vehicles?

We understand that the Maruti Suzuki Brezza facelift is due very soon, likely in the next month or two. It will mainly bring cosmetic changes and additional features rather than any major mechanical overhaul. So if you are keen on the Brezza, it is worth waiting, because you’ll get the updated styling, a bit more equipment and potentially better value without having to wait too long.

The Honda Elevate facelift, on the other hand, is still some time away. The current Elevate was launched in India in September 2023, and reliable estimates put its first facelift only in mid‑ to late‑2026. Given this timeline, we don’t expect it before the second half of this year at the earliest, and even then, the changes are likely to be mild. It will mainly include bumpers, grille and features with no major change to the 1.5‑litre petrol engine and CVT.

Both cars are proven, reliable and easy‑to‑drive automatics, with smooth petrol engines and user‑friendly automatic gearboxes that work well in city traffic. The Elevate is, of course, a size bigger than the Brezza; it’s a proper midsize SUV (Creta class). So you get more cabin and boot space, but you also pay more for it, both in upfront price and running costs. So if you want an automatic soon and are leaning towards the Brezza, wait for the imminent facelift. If you prefer the larger Elevate, it makes sense to buy the current model rather than hold off for many months for a relatively minor update.

Although I do not drive so much right now, I dream of / want to drive across India thus expect that the kms driving will go up. Ideally all terrain is what I would like to drive in. I live in Mumbai. Why would anyone pay Rs 3-5 lakh more for a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol SUV like the Honda Elevate over a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol car like the Skoda Kylaq, especially when the Kylaq offers more torque and a torque-converter automatic? The turbo produces around 178Nm from 1,800rpm, while the naturally aspirated engine makes about 145Nm at around 4,300rpm. The turbo should also lose less power at altitude, and the torque-converter automatic avoids the concerns associated with a dry-clutch DCT. Is the Elevate really worth the premium for long-term reliability and refinement?

Whether it is worth paying the premium for a Honda Elevate over the Skoda Kylaq purely depends on your use case.The Skoda Kylaq will appeal to those buyers who want a (relatively) compact car that's enjoyable to drive. It is well-built and has a strong 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with a responsive 6-speed torque converter automatic that complements its taut chassis and excellent ride-handling balance. Being a sub-4-meter offering, it also falls in a lower tax bracket compared to the Elevate; hence it is more affordable too.The Honda Elevate, on the other hand, is a larger car with more rear seat space and a bigger boot, which makes a difference for buyers who regularly travel with family and/or luggage. The price difference is not just for the engine; it is for the overall package, including space, comfort, higher ground clearance and Honda’s reputation for long-term reliability.Also, do keep in mind that the Elevate's 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine is a proven, reliable unit, and the CVT makes the drive experience very seamless. The 1.5 NA engine's low-end pulling power is also stronger. Sure, at higher altitudes, the Kylaq's turbo-petrol engine is likely to lose less power than the Elevate's NA engine, but off-boost responses will feel noticeably duller because turbo lag in small-capacity turbo engines usually feels more pronounced. Hello Experts, We are looking to replace our Suzuki Ciaz and are considering the new Seltos. Although mileage is not a major concern, could you please suggest whether going for the IVT would be a better option than the DCT? I have personally driven the IVT, and it does feel a bit underpowered for the weight of the new Seltos. Also, please suggest other cars that we should consider. We are upgrading from a sedan and are open to other options as well. Thank you.

Go for the Seltos 1.5 turbo petrol DCT. Coming from a Ciaz, you will appreciate the stronger performance and the DCT’s quick shifts, especially on highways and during overtakes. The IVT is smooth and reliable, but it does feel a bit flat in a car of this size, and since mileage is not a big concern for you, the turbo petrol is the more satisfying choice. The DCT is not as seamless in stop-start traffic as the IVT, but it is a well-sorted unit and should not be a deal-breaker.If you are open to alternatives, the Tata Sierra is worth a look. It offers a more premium cabin, excellent ride comfort and a genuinely spacious rear seat, which makes it a great upgrade from a sedan. The turbo petrol is mated to a torque converter auto that is smoother than the Seltos' DCT in stop-and-go traffic.Another option is the new Honda Elevate. It has a naturally aspirated CVT engine like the Seltos IVT but it offers a bit more performance.Overall, the Seltos turbo petrol DCT is the best fit for your requirements. It offers the right balance of performance, refinement and features, and it will feel like a genuine step up from your Ciaz.

Hello, With the new Honda Elevate now launched, how would you suggest choosing between the Kia Seltos and the new Elevate? I had finalised the Seltos HTK(O) six months ago, but I was not able to purchase it for some reason. Now, I am keen to book a new car next month, around Diwali. My primary usage will be commuting to and from the office, which is around 20km daily. There will also be occasional highway trips of around 200km from Mumbai to small hill stations. Which car would you recommend for a 6ft-tall person? I will definitely go for a petrol automatic, but I’m confused between the two.

Go for the Honda Elevate VX CVT. At 6ft, the driving position matters most to you, and that's where this Honda car wins. Its seat is upright, and there's plenty of headroom. The new Seltos's front seats, by comparison, feel a bit snug, and the seat base is short for taller drivers. For 20km a day in Mumbai traffic, get the CVT. It's smooth in stop-go conditions, and you won't miss working a clutch.The VX is the sweet spot in the range, and it costs about the same as the Kia Seltos HTK(O) CVT. The Honda Elevate facelift launched this week and fills many of the old car's equipment gaps. It also has a bigger boot than the Seltos.

I am a 6 ft driver who loves driving. I've driven the Swift 2013 petrol, Creta 1.6 Diesel Auto and the XUV500 the most on long trips. Now that I am planning to buy a car with a strict budget, do you think the 3XO AX5 TCMPFI petrol variant will be a wise decision to make, as I will be travelling once a month for short trips from Bangalore to Coorg, Pondicherry, GOA, and Mangalore? Which other car can be a perfect match for me, keeping a budget of 12 lakhs max? Also, the 3XO AX5 I'm getting from a friend who has hardly driven 6k km for 10 lakhs.

The new Brezza turbo-petrol could also be a good choice. Overall, the 3XO from your friend is the most sensible choice. The hybrid system is proven and reliable, and the ownership experience is straightforward.If you want a more premium feel and are willing to accept slightly lower fuel efficiency, the Kia Seltos petrol IVT is a strong alternative. It offers a more upmarket cabin and a comfortable ride, but it will not match the Victoris Hybrid on fuel savings.The Hyundai Creta petrol IVT is also worth considering if you want to stay within the Hyundai family. Hello, I want to upgrade from my current Dzire diesel (2009 model). My running is nearly 7 thousand which is very low. My budget is 10 lakh mostly within city driven but with few highway trips every quarter. So please suggest some reliable comfortable car. I have taken the test drive of Maruti Suzuki Fronx AGS but space in the back is also an issue. I have also taken the test drive of Brezza Turbo and I found it smooth and easy . Anything else I should go for ?

With just around 7,000km a year, mostly in the city, a simple petrol car makes much more sense than a diesel. Since you have already driven the Brezza and found it smooth and easy to drive, it would be my first choice. The new 1.0 litre Booster jet is refined, has good low speed tractability and is more than adequate for your occasional highway trips. We also found it impressively efficient, with the onboard computer showing 11 to 14kpl even during hard driving.One important point, though: the new Brezza 1.0 Turbo is manual only. If you are looking for an automatic, the 1.5 litre petrol is still the only Brezza powertrain with an automatic, and that pushes the price beyond your Rs. 10 lakh budget.
