Should I buy the Mercedes C300? Backseat space is not an issue for me, and my main concern is performance.

Asked by: Anirudh

The backseat of a C-class is its weak point, but since that is not an issue for you, you can go right ahead and buy the Mercedes C300, especially since performance is your main criterion.

The 2-litre turbo-petrol produces a meaty 258hp and can rocket to 100kph from a standstill in around 6 seconds. You will enjoy driving it, but watch out for speed breakers as the C-class is known for its low ground clearance, although it was raised a bit during its last update.

I’m planning to upgrade my 2016 Baleno Sigma (petrol MT) to a petrol automatic. I’m looking for a safe, family-friendly car with ADAS/adaptive cruise, good mileage, and modern safety features. My usage is 70% city and 30% highway. Since I already own a Maruti, I’m exploring other brands for a family of 5 (older parents + kid). My budget is under ₹15 lakh, and I’m deciding between an SUV and a sedan. A few options checked were Honda Elevate, Kushaq, Slavia, Creta, Astor, Punch, etc.

Unfortunately, not many cars will fit all your requirements in a budget of Rs 15 lakh. Most notably, ADAS with adaptive cruise control, which is usually reserved for higher variants of cars in higher segments. The cars that do offer it within your budget, however, are the Honda Amaze, Kia Sonet and Tata Nexon.Of these three, we would recommend the Tata Nexon, as it is the most spacious and comfortable, and best suited for travelling with 5 on board. Its mileage is not the best, but it does have all the features you would want and has scored a 5-star crash test rating from both Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP. If you don't mind foregoing ADAS, however, there are far more options that open up.

I want to buy an SUV, and my priorities are as follows: mileage - hybrid or EV, safety - Level 2 ADAS, and comfort - Ventilated seats. Please suggest an SUV within a budget of ₹20 lakh.

You could consider the range-topping Tata Nexon EV with the 45kWh battery, which gets Level 2 ADAS and ventilated seats, both. The Tata Curvv EV is the only other option with the ADAS and ventilated seats. There are no hybrid SUVs for Rs 20L which get ADAS and ventilated seats, and you will have to pay a lot more for the other electric cars that are equipped with these features.

I have an Alto. I want to buy a new car for roughly ₹15 lakhs. My daily running is 5 km maximum, so the car must be an automatic petrol. No AMT and no DCT. I want something that's misuse-friendly for senior citizens. Kindly suggest, thanks!

You can consider the Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXi variant. It comes with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox and is known to be a reliable car. Maruti Suzuki is planning to update the Brezza very soon, so it would be better to wait for the updated model to arrive.Another option that fits your priorities is the Skoda Kylaq Prestige AT. It is a solid car, though it is smaller in size compared to the Brezza.

I am looking for an automatic sedan under ₹10 lakh for a newly married couple.

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Honda Amaze are the best automatic sedan options under Rs 10 lakh. If a smooth, automatic transmission and drive experience are priorities for you, the Honda Amaze CVT is the one you should look at. It's a great pick, especially if rear seat space isn't a deciding factor. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire uses a less sophisticated AMT-type automatic transmission. Gearshifts aren't slick, and there is a noticeable pause in power delivery between shifts, especially under quick acceleration. In other areas, though, the Dzire does come across as the more wholesome package. It's got a more spacious interior, packs in more features, is more fuel-efficient, and also costs a whole lot less.
